Alan B. Howe(Chairman of the Board)
Alan B. Howe has been a director since May 2007 and Chairman of the Board of Directors since March 2008. Mr. Howe is currently Managing Partner of Broadband Initiatives, LLC and oversees the firm's operations. Mr. Howe also serves as Managing Director at B. Riley & Co., LLC, in their Corporate Governance Advisory Services Group in Los Angeles. Mr. Howe is also a member of the board of directors of Ditech Networks (Nasdaq: DITC), and Co-Chairman of Selectica, Inc. (Nasdaq: SLTC). In addition, Mr. Howe serves on a number of private boards. From the period of May of 2005 to October of 2008, Mr. Howe also served as Vice President of Strategic Development for Covad Communications Group, Inc., a nationwide provider of integrated voice and data communications. From April 1995 to April 2001, Mr. Howe served as the Vice President of Finance and Corporate Development and Chief Financial Officer of Teletrac, Inc. Previously, Mr. Howe worked in several positions with Sprint Corporation, including Director of Corporate Development, and as Assistant Vice President for Manufacturers Hanover Trust (now JP Morgan). Mr. Howe holds a B.S. in Business Administration and Marketing from the University of Illinois, and an MBA in Finance from Indiana University's Kelley Graduate School of Business. Mr. Howe was recommended to be a member of our board of directors by Lloyd I. Miller, III, one of our significant stockholders.
Lee Gopadze(President and CEO)
Lee Gopadze is a twenty-five year wireless communications industry executive having held senior management roles at both large and small wireless communications companies. Mr. Gopadze most recently was Senior Vice President and General Manager for the Wholesale Business Division of Covad Communications. Mr. Gopadze oversaw all sales, marketing, product management, and operations for that division. Mr. Gopadze also held similar positions with Covadâ€™s Branded Business and Wireless Divisions during his 6-year tenure there. Mr. Gopadze began his career in wireless communications in 1981. He has held a variety of senior executive positions in Marketing, Sales and Operations at the wireless subsidiaries of Metromedia Telecommunications, Southwestern Bell, and AirTouch Communications. From 1997 thru early 2000, Lee held the positions of Corporate Vice President - Marketing & Sales, Senior Vice President - Network Operations, and Senior Vice President - Corporate Planning & Development at Metricom Inc. In 2000, Mr. Gopadze left Metricom to co-found SkyRiver Communications Inc., a license-exempt broadband wireless carrier and served as its President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Gopadze holds a B.A. from the University of California at Los Angeles and an M.A. from the University of Southern California.
J. Michael Gullard
J. Michael Gullard became a director in 2007. Since 1984, he has served as a general partner of Cornerstone Management, a venture capital and consulting firm that provides strategic focus and direction for technology companies. He also serves on the board of directors of Alliance Semiconductor, Planar Systems, JDA Software, and DynTek and is the Chairman of Mainsoft Corp. Mr. Gullard's 33 years in the technology industry include having served as Chairman of Merant PLC and NetSolve as well as a number of executive and management posts at Telecommunications Technology Inc. and Intel Corporation. He holds a B.A. and an M.B.A from Stanford University.
Toru Kashima became a director of Proxim in May 2011. He serves as the designee of SRA OSS Inc. on Proxim's board of directors. Mr. Kashima has been President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of SRA Inc. and SRA Holdings, Inc. since April 2003. Mr. Kashimaâ€™s experience in leading SRA Inc. an international IT service and support company is particularly relevant as Proxim continues its development of WORP®, its cross layer resource allocation software platform.
Dr. Arogyaswami Paulraj
Arogyaswami Paulraj became a director of Proxim in November 2012. Dr. Paulraj is an Emeritus Professor at Stanford University and a Senior Adviser to Broadcom Corp. Dr. Paulraj is a pioneer of MIMO (Multiple-Input/Multiple-Output) wireless communications, a technology breakthrough that enables dramatically improved wireless performance. MIMO is now incorporated into new wireless standards including WiFi, WiMAX and 4G. In addition to his academic credentials, Dr. Paulraj founded two companies: Iospan Wireless which laid the foundation for 4G wireless technology prior to being acquired by Intel Corp. in 2003, and Beceem Communications which was a leader in 4G wireless semiconductors prior to being acquired by Broadcom Corp. in 2010. Dr. Paulraj received the IEEEâ€™s highest recognition for telecommunications â€“ the Alexander Graham Bell Medal â€“ and is a member of several academies including the US National Academy of Engineering and the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences. He has also received the Padma Bhushan, one of Indiaâ€™s highest national awards.
David J. Porte
David J. Porte became a director of Proxim in May 2011. Mr. Porte is Chief Operations Officer of Telecom Global Inc. which owns and operates a global portfolio of telecommunications services and infrastructure companies focused on designing, building and operating wireless and terrestrial networks. The portfolio of companies includes LCC International, Inc., Opticore Networks, Inc. and Wireless Facilities, Inc. (WFI). Mr. Porte is currently President of Opticore and was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at WFI prior to its purchase by Telecom Global.
