Introduction

Altitude Infrastructure, a subsidiary of Altitude Group, is a pioneer in France’s telecom sector. It is one of the main contributors in the French telecom market, helping regional authorities to explore, develop and construct telecom networks. It currently provides network infrastructure in 19 regions throughout France and employs both wireless and fiber technologies.

Challenge

The company was facing significant network challenges due to growing bandwidth requirements. Furthermore, expanding the fiber links connecting remote and rural locations was turning out to be cost prohibitive. The Altitude team decided to address these challenges by upgrading to a robust, high-speed, high-capacity wireless backhaul connection. The new wireless backhaul also had to be operable in license-free 5.4 GHz channel, for improved cost efficiency.

Solution

Following stringent screening and evaluation of available solutions, Altitude chose Proxim. The original solution proposed by Proxim involved deploying 250 units of point-to-point Tsunami® QuickBridge® 11 radios. More recently, the increasing demand for additional bandwidth led to the migration from Tsunami QuickBridge® 11 to Tsunami QuickBridge® 8150/8250. The Tsunami QuickBridge® product range uses WORP® and Proxim ClearConnect® technology to deliver high QoS with minimal latency and jitter even in conditions with high ambient RF interference. The product range is perfectly adapted for the outdoor environment (IP67), and the radios can be deployed and configured rapidly resulting in substantial cost savings compared to other technologies.

The Altitude team is able to provide reliable, high capacity yet affordable connections to its subscribers. The Proxim Tsunami QuickBridge® not only provided immediate results for Altitude Infrastructure but also helped to easily scale and position Altitude for future expansions.
