Leading all of the country’s provinces and municipalities in gross domestic product, exports, retail sales and industrial output, Guangdong Province is at the heart of China’s trading success. Bordering Hong Kong in southern China, Guangdong is China’s largest recipient of foreign direct investment and generates the country’s highest international tourism earnings. To provide effective telecommunications service to this important province, Guangdong Unicom – a fully integrated telecommunications operator in China – chose to deploy Proxim’s broadband wireless networks.
For China’s entrepreneurial Guangdong Province, with approximately 85.2 million residents, access to high-quality voice and data telecommunications is critical to supporting business and social growth. Yet, in countries with growing subscriber populations, installing copper or fiber networks is a difficult and expensive proposition. High costs, availability challenges and lengthy deployment times present insurmountable obstacles – as do geographical barriers.
Guangdong Unicom, a provincial subsidiary of China Unicom Limited that provides services throughout China, worked with Jin Peng Group to select Proxim’s Tsunami MP point-to-multipoint broadband wireless solutions to deliver Voice over IP and Internet connections all through cities in Guangdong Province. Guangdong Unicom chose Proxim’s Tsunami MP because of its high capacity, flexibility and fast, simple installation. Guangdong Unicom is the first provincial operator to deploy a large-scale network in the 5.8 GHz spectrum, and the Tsunami MP solution constitutes China’s largest high-capacity wireless network.
Jin Peng Group, one of China’s largest IT resellers, supplied 180 Tsunami MP base station units for the project and continues to provide maintenance services and technical support for Proxim products to Guangdong Unicom. |
