Situation: Doña Ana required a solution that would provide a reliable and secure communications platform throughout the county to support multiple agencies and mobile public safety.

Solution: Using solutions from Proxim, Ellucre designed and implemented a secure, county-wide, fixed broadband wireless network and extended the County enterprise network and applications to mobile users and public safety personnel.

REQUIREMENTS

Doña Ana County, New Mexico with a growing population of 150,000 and comprising an area more than 3804 square miles of mountain ranges, valleys, and deserts desired to enhance communication amongst agencies and extend their enterprise to public safety and county employees. Their requirement consisted of an affordable, robust, reliable and secure communications platform that would provide high bandwidth connectivity between county agencies and mobile communications to police, fire, EMT and other mission critical organizations. In addition, the county desired to avoid the high cost of fixed broadband lines (fiber) to remote locations throughout the county and required a system that was based upon common protocols and industry standards, that was scalable, and that would deliver voice, video, and data communications among county and city agencies and mobile employees.

THE ELLUCRE AND PROXIM SOLUTION

Ellucre, a leading wireless systems integrator for enterprises, was chosen as a single source provider to design and implement a communication solution for Doña Ana County. design and allowed the County to more effectively utilize their budget. The project started with a thorough survey of both the County and prospective sites and resulted in a comprehensive survey document and design.

This process was critical given the coverage requirements, terrain, weather and other factors potentially affecting the resulting communications network. Upon completion of the phased implementation, the network will consist of remote locations, with a range of up to fifteen miles, primarily fire stations and police stations and hot spots throughout the County. Each remote location is equipped with up to 60 MB wireless connection to the core network that provides high levels of availability with secure high-speed performance. Using Proxim’s carrier grade security and surveillance solutions including multipoint, point to point, and Wi-Fi equipment and Ellucre expertise, the County will be able to eliminate expensive wire/fiber installation costs and recurring monthly telecommunication fees. The wireless network is designed to be scalable and capable of supporting numerous subscribers. Doña Ana County now has the secure bandwidth necessary to more than meet their routine and mission critical needs for fixed and mobile communications.
