Enhanced Flexibility with VAP (Virtual Access Point)

In addition to the existing logical grouping features like VLANs, network administrators can further segregate users into sets, domains or groups with the help of the VAP feature of the ORiNOCO access points.VAP is a logical entity that exists within the physical WLAN AP device and not on the switch. VAP enables single AP device to be divided into multiple VAPs, where each VAP device can be configured independently with customized attributes.

VAPs offer the following features:
  • Allow the wireless LAN to be segmented into multiple broadcast domains
  • Allow different security mechanisms for different clients on the same access point.
  • Provide better control over broadcast and multicast traffic.
  • Allow segmentation based on frame fragmentation levels, in order to reduce and avoid packet corruption

Automatic Channel Selection

Typical to any indoor environment, there exist a plethora of wifi and non wifi devices ranging from neighboring radios to personal devices such as Bluetooth. Not to mention commonly present non wifi devices such as motors, microwaves, elevators etc that function in the same frequency range as a wireless 802.11 radio. All the devices accrue to a significant amount of inference and consequently degrade the performance of a wireless radio.
How does Proxim solve this issue of interference?
Automatic channel Selection: An indispensible installation tool, the adaptive channel feature allows Proxim’s radios to determine the best channel with the least inference and automatically select the same while booting.

ATPC (Automatic Transmit Power Control)

ATPC (Automatic Transmit Power Control) is an adaptive feature that enables Proxim radios to continuously sense neighboring radios and dynamically adjust their transmit power. Standard wireless solutions void of this feature typically suffer from interference and signal saturations caused by neighboring radios leading to data errors and higher retransmissions ultimately causing lower throughput and sometimes even link outage.
