San Jose, CA, May 31, 2006 –
Proxim Wireless Corporation, a global provider of broadband wireless
equipment and wholly-owned subsidiary of Terabeam, Inc. (NASDAQ:
TRBM), today announced that it has received the coveted Frost
& Sullivan Award for Product Innovation in the
field of Scalable Wireless Broadband Systems. The award is presented
each year to the company that has demonstrated excellence in new
products and technologies within its industry. The recipient will
have shown innovation by launching a broad line of emerging products
and technologies, as Proxim Wireless did this year with the launch
of the WiMAX Forum Certified™ Tsunami MP.16 product and enhancements
to the field-proven Tsunami MP.11 line, to deliver fixed and mobile
WiMAX capabilities for frequency bands available worldwide.
“Proxim
Wireless thoroughly deserves this award for its exceptional ability
to provide scalable WiMAX solutions that can be deployed individually
or in multi-sector configurations, allowing a wider range of service
providers to use WiMAX technology -- from rural providers requiring
less dense configurations to metropolitan providers who need to
support more nodes at closer range,” said Sivakumar Muthuramalingam,
Research Analyst at Frost & Sullivan. “Combined with Proxim’s
similar approach to building Wi-Fi and mesh networks, it offers
a sustainable competitive advantage.”
First Intel-Based WiMAX Compliant Base Station and Subscriber Units
The two product lines
singled out by Frost & Sullivan include the WiMAX Forum Certified
Tsunami MP.16, the only system compliant with the IEEE 802.16d,
3.5 GHz time division duplex (TDD) profile to utilize chipsets from
Intel in both base station and subscriber units, enabling optimal
data rate connectivity and interoperability with Intel-based subscriber
units. Proxim’s other significant innovation, the enhanced
version of its field-proven Tsunami MP.11, delivers the capabilities
of fixed and mobile WiMAX today for license-free frequency bands
worldwide (including the U.S.), with features such as roaming with
seamless hand-offs at speeds up to 200 km/hr, WiMAX Quality of Service
(QoS), and enhanced dynamic frequency selection (DFS).
“As a result,”
Muthuramalingam concluded, “we firmly believe that Proxim’s
contributions to the wireless broadband market with respect to WiMAX
far exceed that of any other player in the market today and therefore
will be a major driver for the deployment of WiMAX as the market
develops.”
“Proxim Wireless
is honored to be selected by Frost & Sullivan for this award,”
said Pankaj Manglik, President and COO of Proxim Wireless. “We
have worked closely with customers to design our WiMAX products
to meet the most stringent needs of our customers worldwide. By
leveraging the radio, mechanical, networking, and management experience
behind our existing Tsunami product line, we have brought an innovative
platform to the 3.5 GHz market. We are also very pleased that this
leading independent firm has recognized that our enhanced MP.11
product delivers today many of the features of mobile WiMAX. As
such, we believe our WiMAX product portfolio is the best and most
robust in the industry, and we are gratified that a leading independent
growth consulting company has validated our contributions to the
WiMAX industry.”
