LAS VEGAS, May 7, 2002 – At the Networld+Interop show today, Proxim Corporation (Nasdaq: PROX), booth #849, announced it is now shipping the first 802.11a PCI Card in the U.S., Europe and Asia Pacific, extending to desktop users the speed and flexibility of a wireless network. Proxim’s Harmony 802.11a PCI Card extends the Harmony product family to bring up to 54 Mbps data rates to desktop users in the enterprise, providing speeds up to five times as fast as 802.11b. In the U.S. and Canada, Proxim’s Harmony 802.11a solution also offers 2X mode for up to 100 Mbps data rates. Proxim delivered the first 802.11a Access Points and CardBus Cards in late 2001.
“The speed and flexibility of the Harmony 802.11a product family is helping enterprises realize the benefits offered by a wireless LAN,” said Lynn Lucas, director of product marketing and business development for Proxim. “Extending the wireless network to the desktop increases the effectiveness of a wireless solution, particularly in hard-to-wire buildings or rapidly growing organizations.”
The Harmony 802.11a PCI Card is an integrated solution that features a five foot cord for the antenna, allowing flexible placement for optimal performance. Using the Harmony 802.11a PCI Card, desktop users can leverage the wireless network at up to 54 Mbps in 802.11a mode, and up to 100 Mbps in Proxim’s 2X mode. In addition, this product is part of Proxim’s Harmony 802.11a solution, which provides enterprises the high-speed, security, reliability and advanced management features they require. Harmony’s unique multi-standard architecture also makes it easy for enterprises to migrate from 802.11b to 802.11a and to other future technologies.
