JOB DESCRIPTION: Senior Commodity Manager

Job Description / Responsibilities
The Senior Commodity Manager will primarily be responsible for the global commodity and procurement operations for Proxim Wireless. Under the guidance of the Director of Materials, the Senior Commodity Manager will maintain supplier relationships and have overall responsibility for pricing, replenishment programs, material pipelines, supplier qualification, supplier performance, and contract administration. One of the key responsibilities will be to work with key suppliers to mitigate/eliminate roadblocks to in-house and outsource manufacturing processes. This person will also be responsible for analyzing costed bill of materials from Proxims CMs and recommending/negotiating cost reductions. The Senior Commodity Manager will work cross functionally and represent the operations department in company/partner meetings as well as interact with upper level management.
Specific Duties:
- Identify and evaluate suppliers (based on product fit, quality and cost), and negotiate contracts.
- Identify and manage (directly with suppliers) key components, such as memory, CPUs, PCBA, and electro-mechanical components, and ensure continuance of supply, and monitor market conditions, report trends, and ensure price stability and/or reductions.
- Achieve quarterly cost reduction targets.
- Develop contingency plans for critical components and/or suppliers
- Collaborate with CMs (US and Asia) to determine material needs and shortages and fulfill accordingly
- Approve invoices and when necessary provide reconciliations between suppliers and accounting
- Plan and monitor purchase parts inventory buffer levels
- Work closely with the Planner/Scheduler to execute exception notices based on MRP runs
- Work with department manager to establish and implement process improvements
- Work with Finance and other departments as a representative of Operations to achieve desired goals
- Run Oracle/Discoverer cost analysis reports for the executive team
Additional Requirements:
- Exceptional understanding of markets, pricing, and manufacturing processes for active, passive, and electro-mechanical components.
- Must be comfortable working in a multi-mode manufacturing environment (in-house and outsourced)
- Must have excellent negotiation skills and background in effectively managing supplier relationships.
- Bottom line driven
- Accounting knowledge, e.g. financial statement review, and cost accounting/analysis.
- Knowledge of Oracle ERP system or equivalent.
- Willingness to occasionally work off hours in synch with global suppliers
Experience Required
- 5 to 10 years of related experience in CM, supplier, and commodity management, preferably in high-tech manufacturing
Education
- BS/BA degree or equivalent
- CPM a plus
